Founded in 1959, the Elk Grove Unified School District has received an outstanding amount of awards from all different organizations. In its 50 years of service, there have only been 5 superintendents, showing the great dedication and consistency of leadership the district has had over time.

School Performance
For 2010, the growth for API scores was good, and the local schools in the district have done well, maintaining above 800 for Joseph Kerr Middle School and just under 800 for Elk Grove High School. The Middle School received an "A" for 2009, stating their scores were above the statewide performance target.
EGUSD is a very diverse district, as shown by the demographics breakdown below. There are over 80 languages spoken across the entire district.
